Portraits have many functions the most common function is to make the viewer aware of personalities, likeness, mood, and environment. So portraits are generally not snapshots and are composed visual representations of personality. We believe that a portrait is tantamount in telling a legacy or archiving memories in their correct form. Without portraiture we may not have know what our past presidents looked like. We may not have known important people in time and may not have understood their surroundings.
